Ideal for browning and searing in, cooking and re-heating chilis, stew, chowders and for simmering or slow-cooking foods. Secure lid seals in all the moisture and flavor. Roomy enough to cook a meal and still have plenty of leftovers. Move it from stovetop to oven when you're ready. Cast iron enameled Dutch oven retains heat well and is beautiful enough to bring right to the table as you serve. Features sturdy, cast handles on sides so you can lift and carry with ease. Safe to use with metal utensils. About Le Creuset...Since 1925, artisans have been crafting Le Creuset cookware in the French village of Fresnoy Le Grand. Each piece of Le Creuset cast iron cookware is handcast, polished, double enamel-coated and then fired, resulting in some of the finest quality cookware available. Cast iron is one of the best materials for distributing heat gently and thoroughly and is ideal for induction ranges. The strong enamel coating will not absorb odors or flavors, and is easy to clean. Heavy lids securely seal in moisture and flavor. Le Creuset cookware comes in a variety of sizes, colors and styles to match any kitchen and cooking preference. So lasting, you'll pass it on to the next generation of promising cooks.

Amazon.com Review:
Beautiful enough for the table and durable enough to outlive its lifetime warranty against defects, this heavy, round, 13-quart French oven is perfect for preparing and ceremoniously serving dishes like cassoulet and vegetable soup. It's made of cast iron, with both exterior and interior clad in two coats of enamel.

As cast iron is unexcelled for heat distribution and retention and enamel is impervious to acids and odors, the oven (or casserole) browns and cooks food uniformly and gently without hot spots and can be used for marinating. It's safe on any stovetop, including induction, and dishwasher-safe. The plastic knob on its heavy, tight-fitting lid is ovenproof to 450 degrees F. Like all Le Creuset cast-iron products, it's hand cast in a one-of-a-kind sand mold and hand finished at the Le Creuset factory in France. It carries a lifetime warranty against defects and measures 16-1/2 by 13-3/4 by 8 inches. --Fred Brack

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - great
big pot that will handle just about anything. works great. solid construction. expensive but well worth the money.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Great Marketing, Great Product - Lackluster Customer Support
Until recently I have been a Le Creuset crusader. I have converted most of my friends and family. My "religion" with their products parallels the excitement that I have for most Apple products. Unfortunately I have been shown the "not so happy" side of Le Creuset. My 13 Quart beloved pot is now a pot with a large 4 inch "V" on its side. I was making a rue, stirring and voila, a low pitched ping and then two cracks that converged from the rim to the base.

Le Creuset will replace ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best French Oven
I've been looking for a pot this big and I love it. It is HUGE and since I am a hobby cook and, Italian I can make Sunday Gravy put in containers and freeze it and have it on hand all of the time, not to mention how it retains heat. I could go on and on but I think you get my drift.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Le Creuset 13 1/4 qt French Oven
This is a seriously large and heavy pot, but that's what I needed to make cassoulet and other recipes. It stays hot and is attractive. Its design allows it to fit easily on the middle shelf of the oven because it's wide and relatively short. A serious tool for the serious cook.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - My kitchen workhorse -- expensive but so worth it!!!
This is by far the most-used item in my kitchen. Think about it: If you could increase your cooking surface area when browning meat or vegetables or cooking soup, chili or spaghetti sauce, wouldn't you do so? This dutch oven does exactly that. I use it to brown everything--I rarely use my (very fine All-Clad) chef's skillet any more. And I actually love the high sides--they reduce spatters without reducing browning, since the cast iron almost guarantees perfect browning. This is a great pan if ... Read More
